BHS Raffle Quilt

We're Going on a Bear Cougar Hunt

Some interesting facts about Puma concolor:
  • It holds the Guinness record for the animal with the highest number of names - over 40 in English alone.  The list includes cougar, mountain lion, mountain cat, catamount, panther, puma, and my favorite - mountain screamer.
  • It has the greatest range of any large terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere, extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America.  It is found in every major American habitat type.
  • It is the second heaviest cat in the Western Hemisphere, the jaguar being first.
  • It is closer genetically to the domestic cat than to true lions.  Don't let it go to your head, Eb.
  • It is nocturnal, most active at dawn and dusk.  Hmm, sounds familiar.
  • Aside from humans, no species preys upon mature cougars in the wild.  We're talking top of the food chain here.
Well, this human is going hunting from the safety of her living room and no cougars will be harmed in the making of this quilt.  The well-being of little kitty cousins - that remains to be seen.

Some of the candidates:

Nice, but would require some artistic translation.

Cool, but might be too creepy for some.

Maybe.  Let's see what PicMonkey can do.  For those who have never heard of PicMonkey, it's a fun, FREE photo editing website.

This is the posterize function with four or five colors.  It could work but I'm not sure it's what I want.

Oh!  This!

I could see this in thread painting.

I've already got my color scheme: Blue and White, Fight Fight!  So let's see what white on blue would look like.

PicMonkey to the rescue again.

I like it!

Meanwhile, Eb and Flo have been thinking - why didn't you just use one of us as a model!  Duh!
