Leftovers

It's probably safe to assume that most people think of food when they hear that word; I would guess that it probably conjures up certain feelings as well.  And those feelings run the gamut.  You have those who would rather starve than eat leftovers.  Then you have those who are thinking how good their current meal will taste the next day.  There are those who save every single scrap and spoonful, and those (too many) who throw away enough to feed an army.

One of the first things I think of is Thanksgiving.   I love Thanksgiving leftovers!  The only problem I've ever had with them is finding room to store them.  (Or not having any because we ate at someone else's house.)

When it comes to quilting, leftovers can pose a challenge for some, and be a delight to others.  Just check out what Leah Day did with some incredibly small scraps.

After the BHS Raffle quilt I had Thanksgiving dinner kind of leftovers - in other words, lots.  So I decided to make a small quilt.

A Little Geography Lesson

There is a country called Procrastination.  It's located just north of a country called The Last Minute, of which I am Queen!

The Bothell High School All Alumni Picnic took place today, starting at 11:00 am.

We're Going on a Bear Cougar Hunt

Some interesting facts about Puma concolor:

• It holds the Guinness record for the animal with the highest number of names - over 40 in English alone.  The list includes cougar, mountain lion, mountain cat, catamount, panther, puma, and my favorite - mountain screamer.
• It has the greatest range of any large terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere, extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America.  It is found in every major American habitat type.
• It is the second heaviest cat in the Western Hemisphere, the jaguar being first.
• It is closer genetically to the domestic cat than to true lions.  Don't let it go to your head, Eb.
• It is nocturnal, most active at dawn and dusk.  Hmm, sounds familiar.
• Aside from humans, no species preys upon mature cougars in the wild.  We're talking top of the food chain here.

Well, this human is going hunting from the safety of her living room and no cougars will be harmed in the making of this quilt.  The well-being of little kitty cousins - that remains to be seen.
